Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Sam@PoisonIvyPolice.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

If you request us to use glysophate, we will offer better alternatives. If you insist and ask nicely, we'll buy it and apply it for you. But we really, really don't like it.

Yes. We use the minimal amount of triclopyr (or none) for you to be safe from poison ivy in your yard. The EPA has extensively tested the product we use (120 times!) and approves its use for agriculture, dairies, waterways, forests and other public areas that need protection from vine takeovers. The EPA deems the product "practically non-toxic" (the least toxic category used by the EPA) to mammals, insects, freshwater fish and invertabrates.

Remember too much of anything is bad. If you DON'T plan to drink it, put it in your eyes or soak your feet in the treatment solution, you're safe. Avoiding these activities means you, your kids, pets and the wildlife will be safe in your yard and free from poison ivy. It dries within 20-30 minutes and starts working immediately, but only on the vines.

Sometimes we get poison ivy rash too. We minimize our risk by:

  • Not touching it, especially with bare skin.
  • Washing - using Dawn - frequently while working.
  • Taking a homeopathic supplement, Oral Ivy, daily to reduce sensitivity.
  • Using Zanfel, the best topical treatment, when we have a rash.

Sometimes. Most of the time, it's not necessary to remove poison ivy vines after being treated. By the time we follow up in 14 days, it has naturally composted in place. With proper maintenance, it will not grow back.

In certain situations, when a vine has grown beyond average size, we are forced to use other methods which include severing the vine and allowing everything above the cut to die while treating the cut vine that goes to the ground. In these situations, it is common that removal is necessary to access those large vines.

We do remove other vines, like Virginia Creeper, Mile-a-Minute, Common Greenbrier, Common Grapevine, Honeysuckle, English Ivy and Kudzu will require removal--especially if the vines have completely subsumed or covered trees, fences, sheds. We will happily provide you with an estimate for removal.
